Senior Living Options

Explore your senior living options

There are many different types of senior living options available today. Each offers a different lifestyle and level of care. Below are descriptions of these different options that may help in determining which option best suits you or a loved one.

Independent Retirement Living

Developed by Holiday Retirement in 1971, Independent Retirement Living offers seniors a unique senior living option. Independent Retirement Living communities are ideal for seniors capable of living alone and for those who do not require specialized care (though Home Care is available for those who may need extra assistance). The Holiday Retirement communities feature private apartments, live-in managers, three meals daily, local transportation, housekeeping, and regularly scheduled social activities in one all-inclusive monthly rent with no buy-in fees or long-term leases.

Assisted Living

These communities offer around-the-clock assistance depending on individual needs, such as bathing, dressing, housekeeping, meals and medication.

CCRC (Continuing Care Retirement Communities)

These communities combine different levels of care within one facility. The levels of care often include Independent Retirement Living, Assisted Living and Nursing Home. Entry into higher levels of care may be limited only to residents who have lived within the facility’s Independent Living component. Buy-in fees and long-term contracts are often required.

Alzheimer’s/Memory Care

These facilities provide a safe and secure environment for people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease or other memory loss. The facilities may operate independently or as an extension of an Assisted Living community.

Respite

This term refers to a short stay at an Assisted Living facility or Nursing Home, which allows primary caregivers to momentarily relinquish their duties or to help the resident become acquainted with a facility.

Nursing Home

These facilities provide around-the-clock skilled care on a long-term or short-term basis.

Hospice

This type of care is offered to individuals who have a terminal illness and are reaching the final stages of their illness. The services can be provided in home, a separate facility or nursing home.

Home Care

This type of care provides seniors with in-home aid depending on need. Care may include bathing, dressing, housekeeping, meals and medication. Home Care is available in Independent Retirement Living communities but may not be permitted in other facilities that offer high levels of care. Holiday Retirement welcomes Home Care providers through outside agencies and many have offices within communities. Contact our Community Managers for more details.
